Summer Slam 2019 - Week 2 - Day 7

Hello Parents,
We hope you had a good Tuesday. Here we are, with the days' happenings.

Beach clean-up: Here's the link to the Volunteers for the beach clean up is up. Please sign up for this field trip as we do need help. Link to the beach clean-up!
Brain Storming with Maitri:
.
In line with our Beach Clean Up Project, our theme is ‘save the sea.’
We are going to talk about what happens to the Sea animals in 'dirty' water and the perils that they face due pollution and industrial accidents, such as oil spills.  A garment dyeing project is planned to symbolise our awareness of this issue and support for a resolution.
We have another session of brain-storming with Maitri on Thursday. And she is going to us more about the cleanup - how's and why's and all of that.
Coding:

Using the iPad we began work on an introductory coding App - Scratch. We created images. It is hoped that we can apply what is learnt to write interactive stories, games and animations. ... So basically, Scratch is all the fun of coding with none of the hassle of typing!
Entertainment:

Elvis is in the building (we at least in the spirit of things that we are doing to celebrate his artistry in Rock and Roll music and entertainment. The children loved the video of  ‘Wooden Heart’. Then they watched a few other video clips of and. quote "Elvis has some fancy outfits, Ms Suanne’  observed Anaaya. Rest assured, we will honour 'The King in more than one way!
Science:

(cont from W2 D6 ... the answer to our findings was; Yes!  Most plants ‘drink’ water from the ground through their roots. The water travels up the stem of the plant into the leaves and flowers. The plants use the water to make the food. When a flower is cut, into it no longer has roots. But, the stem of the flower can still ‘drink’ up the water and provide it to the leaves and flowers. That's how we got our flowers in the colours of ‘pink, green and yellow’. So, please give it a try at home. Here's the link.

Basketball:
We practised more, applying the rules and forming a game plan. Uncles; Dennis and Sathish showed us how to pass, dribble and shoot the ball.  Things are hotting up, that's for sure!
Snack:

We had the choice of having plain crackers or crackers with strawberry jam and we'll leave the popular choice to your imagination! It hit the spot!
Inventors: The Fan!
Who invented it and why it is so essential in our day to day use?  Here are a few details that were discussed about the fan: it was invented in 1882 by Schuyler Skaats Wheeler. A few years later, Philip Diehl mounted a fan blade on a sewing machine motor and attached it to the ceiling, inventing the ceiling fan, which he patented in 1887.

Geography:
We started on our project (....?) and today, cut out all the circles that were needed for it. Then we began to colour. The project is shaping up well at this time and we shall keep you posted.
Hip Hop with Uncle Suhairi:
It is always fun with Uncle Suhairi. He started off with some warm exercises and then we did a little Zumba. And guess who’s music we danced to? Yep.. it was songs of Elvis the King of Rock and Roll.
