Hell Mums and Dads,
Welcome to our update of Day 2 Summer Slam!
We were greeted by happy and eager faces and are pleased to share with you all the activities that kept us busy through the day!Do enjoy and have a wonderful evening.
Team SS 2019
Brain storming with Maitri :
We began the day with some insightful thoughts on 'who we are' and our role in making the world an enjoyable abode! This thought process is a lead to a new and exciting exercise. We are going to create our very own storybook! The theme of the story being, how we can save the earth and how each child can be a ‘superhero’ in its true sense, towards this mission.
Some of them are marking a picture booklet while some penned down a few words too. The very little ones in our group too have a part in this exercise. They are making the front covers for the books.
Thank you, Mrs Maitri Marks, for being a part of the team and doing this project with the children.
Cookery
Speaking about the world we live in, we are exploring food from different parts of the world. Today we went Japanese. The project was to make a variety of ‘makizushi’. We had an egg mayo sushi, carrot and cucumber and a plain rice ball sushi. Children found these creations, rather delicious, needed just a few ingredients! They also realised that although the preparation looks simple, it does require some good motor skills to put the sushi together. Every step of the preparation right from peeling the carrots and eggs to having a first-hand crack at rolling the sushi’s using the bamboo mats was a thrill!
Sports - Touch Rugby :
We realised that we do need to do a little bit of running and exercising to be really hungry and enjoy our snack. So we had Rugby time with Uncle Dennis and Uncle Sathish. We practised the skills, learnt yesterday. Our coaches told us to pay attention to ‘passing the ball’ and ‘throwing’. So that’s what we concentrated on today.
‘I feel like a rugby player’ said one of our slammers as we were out playing in the garden.

Snack Time :
All that running and passing the ball sure made us hungry for our delicious snack - makizushi!
Music - Michael Jackson :
We listened to the song, ‘heal the world’ by Michael Jackson and learnt the lyrics of the song. ..psst.. a little sneak peek of something we are going to do this Friday! Wait and see Mums and Dads..
| Lunch Time :
A nice and happy lunchtime was follwed by board games and yes another bite of sushi (for some)
Experiment - ‘Eggsperiment’:
Our ‘eggsperiment’ is being done over two days. We began the process today and would be able to see the results tomorrow. We cracked an egg and showed the children the various parts and differentiated, and spoke about; what kind of eggs make it as chickens and what sort ends up in the markets and stores.
The experiment was: submerging an egg in water and another, in vinegar. Children made some interesting deductions. One 'hit it on the nail' deducing that the egg submerged in vinegar would bounce while the egg submerged in water would crack if bounced! We left them guessing until tomorrow - the day of discovery.
Geography Cum Art and Craft:
Today we attempted a special form of Chinese painting. Apparently, this particular type of painting is always around the theme that potrays the scene of nature at dusk. We called our painting 'A view of the lake at dusk'. Children enjoyed the various steps involved in creating the art piece was In continuation with our lesson on learning about the world we live in, today children were involved in making a balloon craft. We would be using this as a model of the globe. Children were seen handling their craft material with much care. That is so much part of Montessori education!
'Dancercise' with Uncle Suhairi :
Yay! Uncle Suhari is back with us for an exciting 'dancercise' session. Uncle Suhari ensured that all of us did those warm-ups really well before we went to moving our bodies to the music. Children were seen and heard humming the tune of the songs we danced to as we made our way downstairs to get ready to go home!
Bye for now! |
