Summer Slam 2019 - Week 1 - Day 3

Hello Mums and Dads,

We hope you had a good day just as we did. After a successful sushi project yesterday, there would have been no other better way to begin our day, other than with a cookery project. So we did! ...Just like us, our slammers love their food! We make a great team!

Please scroll down for more. Do enjoy!

Have a pleasant evening,

Team SS2019

Cookery :

Today we went local with the all famous kaya toast but with a twist. Children spread the kaya and a generous spread of butter not on toast but on ‘crackers’. We helped ourselves with a small serving and then kept the rest of the crackers for snack time.

Gymnastics :

Gymnastics with Coach Annie was super fun. Besides the routine warm ups and basic skills such as balancing, walking, jumping and landing on two feet, Today children were shown the forward roll. Coach made it look so easy and broke down the steps for us. It seemed easy for some of our slammers too!
Our enthusiastic gymnastics are often heard asking, “Coach are we ready for cart wheels?”
“Can you teach us that?”
Coach Annie’s equally enthusiastic response is, “Yes, I will.. soon!”

Coding :

We had our first lesson in coding. Our IT coaches Aunty Isuri and Uncle Praveen took the lead under the guidance of (pro) Uncle Sathish. We began by introducing to children to what a computer is, its parts and how this machine has evolved from then to now. Following this, we had a brief lesson on coding and the different coding languages. We went through the life cycle of a caterpillar to explain the programming life cycle. It was an interesting learning experience.

Snack :
Now it was finally time for our kaya and butter crackers. ‘So yummy’, ‘I like it’, ‘can I have more please’, ‘can I have this again in the afternoon too’… as heard while enjoying the snack.

Art and Craft :
Some of our children have already got their ‘one dollar’ from the tooth fairy while some are waiting in anticipation for the day! Painting a piggy bank was our craft of the day. Now those who have used up their dollar are hoping for their next chance to inaugurate their piggy bank! We also continued our work on making the globe.
Micheal Jackson:

It almost felt like a dance party today. We watched some videos of the pop star and went with those moves as we danced our way through some of his exhilarating songs!

Experiment  - ‘Eggsperiment’ :
Discovery time! So what happened to the egg that was submerged in vinegar. Orit was right with his deduction yesterday. The egg was bouncy and rubbery. The egg was also translucent because the hard outside shell is gone. WOW! Would you like to know the science behind this? A chicken's egg is covered in a shell that is made of calcium carbonate. ... The shell is made of the same “carbonate” and will react like soda, only much less extreme The little bubbles in the water are made of carbon dioxide gas; just like the bubbles from the vinegar and baking soda volcano experiment.
Another successful experiment with our aspiring scientists!

Sports - Rugby :
Today, we learnt a few more skills and were introduced to the game on how it is played. We also had a trial game accompanied by a lot of whistle blowing by Uncle Dennis. Our coaches tell us that we are getting prepared for a game on Friday! YAY
Snacks :
It was now time for a quick snack before we got set to go home. We will be back tomorro
